ADC Celebrates Court Ruling Against Deregistration Efforts

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) expressed satisfaction with the Court of Appeal's unanimous judgment that nullified a Federal High Court ruling directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the ADC and four other political parties. In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC claimed that the trial judge, Justice Peter Lifu, had "concocted evidence" favoring the plaintiffs and exhibited "judicial indiscipline." The appellate court found that the plaintiffs lacked the legal standing to initiate the case and failed to provide credible evidence to support their claims.

It also noted that INEC had confirmed the ADC's compliance with constitutional and electoral requirements. The court criticized the trial court's conclusion regarding ADC's elected representatives, stating that no evidence of defection existed.

The ADC highlighted the appellate court's condemnation of Justice Lifu's conduct, questioning his continued ability to serve on the bench.
