Jalupon Close Residents Demand Fair Electricity Supply

Residents of Jalupon Close in Surulere, Lagos, are grappling with electricity tariff injustices as they pay for Band A rates but often receive Band D levels of service. The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has classified Jalupon Close under Band B, promising a minimum of 16 hours of electricity supply daily.

However, residents report erratic power supply, with some homes receiving significantly less than promised. The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has established a band system to categorize electricity supply based on average daily hours, but the reality for Jalupon Close residents is starkly different.

Many are left confused about their billing, as the rates do not reflect the actual service received. Ayo Idowu, chairman of the Jalupon Close Residents Association, has called for NERC to investigate these inconsistencies and ensure transparent compensation mechanisms for service shortfalls.

The situation highlights a broader issue of trust and accountability within Nigeria's electricity distribution framework.
