PDP Leadership Crisis Deepens After Supreme Court Ruling

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) is experiencing significant disarray after a Supreme Court ruling on Thursday invalidated two rival leadership factions led by Kabiru Turaki and Abdulrahman Moham. The court found that both factions breached a subsisting court order, rendering their outcomes invalid and leaving the party without a clearly recognized national leadership.

This ruling has sparked fresh claims and counterclaims among stakeholders. Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has aligned himself with the Abdulrahman Moham faction, while Adolphu Wabara, the Chairman of the party's Board of Trustees, has offered a different interpretation of the judgment.

Wabara stated that the ruling nullifies the November 2025 Ibadan convention and the March 2026 Abuja convention, and he announced actions taken by the faction, including appointments deemed invalid. He also mentioned convening an emergency meeting of the National Executive Committee to establish an interim national working committee aimed at fostering reconciliation and restoring order within the party as it grapples with internal disputes ahead of the 2027 general elections.
