Akpabio Mocks PDP Defections During Senate Session

During a Senate plenary session, Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President, openly mocked the opposition parties, particularly the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in light of recent defections. He read an official notification regarding the defection of Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, the former governor of Sokoto State, to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Akpabio highlighted a broader shift within the minor caucus, which included resignations from the Labour Party (LP). While reading, he expressed amusement at the fragmentation of the opposition, stating, "PDP is gone," and laughed, indicating a perceived steady exodus of lawmakers from the PDP.

He further noted that the Labour Party is struggling and described it as "dead." Akpabio dismissed allegations that the All Progressives Congress (APC) was orchestrating a crisis within the opposition, attributing the instability to the internal leadership failures of the PDP, LP, and APGA. He concluded by stating that the opposition is struggling to maintain a unified front while the APC remains focused on governance.
