PDP and APC Experience Major Defections Ahead of 2027 Elections

On Tuesday, a significant political shift occurred in Nigeria as five members of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and two from the All Progressives Congress (APC) defected to other parties. Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu announced the defections during a plenary session, highlighting the growing fluidity within Nigeria's political landscape.

Notably, Thaddeus Attah, representing the Eti Osa Federal Constituency, left the Labour Party for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing leadership crises within the Labour Party as a reason for his departure. The PDP's losses included Abubakar Abdul from Niger State and Yakubu Noma from Kebbi, who joined the ADC, while two lawmakers from Osun State, Mudashiru Alani and Ola Oluwa Adetunji, defected to the APC.

The APC also lost David Fuoh from Taraba to the PDP and Bashir Zubair from Kaduna to the ADC. This trend of defections underscores the dynamic nature of Nigeria's political alliances, especially as the country approaches the 2027 elections.
