Peller: Lagos Govt Finally Breaks Silence on TikToker’s N36m Tax Outcry

The Lagos State government has responded to the outcry from TikTok influencer Habeeb Hamzat, also known as Peller, regarding a N36 million tax demand from the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS). The government clarified that taxation applies to all individuals earning legitimately, including online influencers like Peller.

According to Abdulkabir Ogungbo, special adviser on Tax Revenue to Governor Babajide, the new tax reform covers digital assets and virtual transactions, meaning that TikTok stars, YouTubers, and online earners are not exempt from taxation. Peller had previously publicly criticized the Super Falcons for allegedly ignoring their financial rewards, suggesting a change in attitude towards money.

The government emphasized the importance of citizens declaring income honestly and paying taxes as mandated by Nigerian law.
