PenCom Extends Civil Servants' Pension Enrolment Deadline

The National Pension Commission (PenCom) has announced an extension of the deadline for the One-Time Online Verification and Enrolment Exercise for employees of treasury-funded Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to 31 December 2026. This exercise, which began in February 2026, was initially set to conclude on 31 July 2026.

The extension was prompted by requests from MDAs for additional time due to low participation; as of July 2026, only 31,099 out of an estimated 150,000 eligible employees had completed the enrolment process. PenCom emphasized the importance of this exercise for determining accrued pension rights, which include benefits earned under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS) prior to the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) introduced in 2004.

The Head of Civil Service of the Federation had previously directed MDAs to support this initiative. The enrolment is conducted digitally via PenCom’s Contributions and Bond Redemption Application (COBRA), facilitating data capture and processing to secure necessary funding for pension liabilities.
