PenCom Secures $250M for Infrastructure Investment Initiative

The National Pension Commission (PenCom) has mobilised a $250 million commitment for infrastructure investment, with pension fund operators contributing $200 million and development finance institutions expected to add $50 million. Director-General Omolola Oloworaran announced this initiative at the 2026 PenCom Media Conference in Lagos, stating that the first tranche of the investment is anticipated to be deployed before the end of the first quarter of 2027.
This marks the first time Nigeria’s pension industry has jointly committed funds to infrastructure, aimed at supporting productive investment while ensuring sustainable returns for pension contributors. The pension industry plans to invest $200 million over the next 10 years, with ongoing discussions for the additional $50 million.
Specific projects for funding are still being finalised. Oloworaran noted that pension assets increased from N20.79 trillion in July 2024 to N31.48 trillion in July 2026, with 938,229 Nigerians joining the Contributory Pension Scheme during this period.
