PenCom to Invest N300 Billion in Nigeria's Infrastructure

The National Pension Commission (PenCom) announced plans to invest N300 billion in infrastructural development across Nigeria, with the deployment of these funds set to commence in the second quarter of 2027. Ms Omolola Oloworaran, the Director General of PenCom, disclosed that N241 billion has already been earmarked by pension fund operators for infrastructure investment, which is expected to increase to N300 billion over time.
This investment is part of an infrastructure framework established in collaboration with FSD Africa, allowing Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs) to participate. Oloworaran emphasized that infrastructural investments are seen as a viable means to achieve higher yields for contributors' funds and to mitigate the adverse effects of inflation.
While specific areas for investment have not yet been determined, the initiative marks a significant milestone for the pension sector, aiming to mobilize capital for infrastructure development in Nigeria. Additionally, PenCom has approved a global benchmark maturity assessment for the Nigerian pension industry to align with international best practices.
