Nigeria and Ghana Strengthen Bilateral Relations Amid Disputes

On July 2, 2026, Dunoma Umar, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, received the Acting High Commissioner of Ghana in Abuja. The meeting focused on enhancing Nigeria-Ghana bilateral relations and addressing a prolonged commercial dispute between Ghanaian investors and their Nigerian business counterparts regarding the ownership of the River Park estate along Airport Road.

The Acting High Commissioner expressed gratitude for the audience granted on short notice and reaffirmed Ghana's high regard for its longstanding relationship with Nigeria. Concerns were raised about the safety and welfare of Ghanaian nationals connected to the investment dispute, which has heightened tensions.

The Permanent Secretary reiterated Nigeria's commitment to maintaining excellent bilateral relations and assured that the Ministry would carefully examine the concerns presented.
