Peter Obi Promotes Domestic Tourism as President

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 general elections, stated on Thursday, September 10, that he would not spend his holidays abroad if elected president. Instead, he pledged to remain in Nigeria and promote domestic tourism, highlighting states such as Kano, Bauchi, and Plateau as potential destinations for presidential visits to enhance the tourism industry and support local jobs.

During a live interview on Arise News, Obi outlined his campaign priorities, which include electoral integrity, addressing insecurity, and improving leadership conduct. He proposed establishing an independent system to capture election results directly from polling units to ensure transparency.

Obi also addressed the ongoing issue of kidnappings in Nigeria, criticizing the effectiveness of current government surveillance. He clarified previous comments made during a visit where he expressed a willingness to "die" for his vote, stating it was a symbolic gesture to encourage supporters.

Obi joined the NDC on May 29, 2026, after resigning from the African Democratic Congress.
