Peter Obi Highlights Lent-Ramadan Overlap for Unity

Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate, emphasized the significance of the overlap between the Christian Lenten season and the Muslim Ramadan fast as a symbol of national unity in Nigeria. He articulated this during a spiritual convergence on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, highlighting the rare coincidence of both religious observances beginning on the same day.

Obi called this period a "double fast" and an invitation for Nigerians to transcend their differences, urging them to engage in prayer and sacrifice for the nation's healing. He noted that while Nigeria is richly blessed with resources, poor leadership has hindered its progress.
