Peter Obi Reveals N2.13bn Ecological Funds in Account

Peter Obi, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, publicly revealed a First Bank account number that he claims holds over N2.13 billion in ecological funds designated for addressing the erosion crisis in Oko/Umuchiana. This amount was allocated to his administration roughly three months before he left office as governor.

Obi stated that he chose not to spend the funds, adhering to the principle that government is a continuum, and emphasized that the funds were earmarked for a specific project. His statement was a direct response to the Anambra State Government's allegations regarding inherited debts, including a N2 billion ecological loan and outstanding payments.

Obi rejected these claims as "completely false," asserting that his administration had spent years resolving historical gratuity arrears and pension backlogs, totaling over N35 billion. He also mentioned that he left behind over N75 billion in savings, clarifying that the ecological funds were not included in that figure as they were specifically allocated.
