Nigerian Pharmaceutical Council Raises Alarm Over Unsafe Drug Storage Practices

The Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria (PCN) expressed worry over widespread unsafe drug storage practices in the country, leading to the sale of medicines in unregulated outlets with compromised potency. Dr.

Suleiman Chiroma, head of enforcement at PCN, revealed shocking levels of negligence in drug handling and preservation during recent inspections in Lagos. The council has intensified enforcement efforts, sealing 498 medicine outlets in Lagos State for violating pharmaceutical regulations.

PCN also shut down a major unregulated drug market in Idumota, Ikorodu, relocating compliant operators to a newly established coordination center with proper facilities. The move aims to safeguard public health and ensure compliance with drug distribution standards.
