Pharmacist Advocates Overhaul of Nigeria's Medicine Supply Chain

Chizomam Emej, the managing director of Troop Pharmaceutical Limited, has criticized the persistent weaknesses in Nigeria's drug distribution system, advocating for a comprehensive overhaul of the country's medicine supply chain. Emej warned that gaps in the supply chain continue to enable the circulation of counterfeit products across Nigeria.

Speaking at an event in Lagos, she highlighted the serious structural problems within the pharmaceutical distribution network, noting that even common products like vitamin C are affected by counterfeit issues. Emej, who is also the vice chairman of the Courier Logistics Management Institute, stressed the importance of strengthening formal distribution systems to safeguard public health and ensure quality products reach consumers.

Ogheneochuko Omaruay, managing director of New Height Pharma Limited, emphasized the need for collaboration among industry players to address long-standing logistical challenges in Nigeria's distribution network. The event underscored the critical role of logistics in securing the medicine supply chain and restoring public confidence in Nigeria's pharmaceutical system.
