Onanuga Demands Probe into El-Rufai's Phone Tapping Claims

Onanuga has urged for a thorough investigation into former Governor Nasir El-Rufai following his public disclosure regarding phone tapping. El-Rufai's comments during an interview with Arise Television raised questions about the legality of wiretapping in Nigeria, particularly concerning the alleged tapping of Ribadu's phone, which purportedly allowed for the interception of conversations.

El-Rufai claimed that the National Security Adviser (NSA) ordered the arrest of Ribadu upon his return to Nigeria at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. Although the Department of State Services (DSS) approached the airport, they did not present a formal arrest warrant or court order, which El-Rufai admitted was illegal.

He argued that the government routinely engages in such practices without court authorization. This incident adds to the widening political gulf between El-Rufai and the current administration, particularly as his relationship with President Tinubu's government has become strained following his nomination for a ministerial position and subsequent drop due to security clearance concerns.
