Plateau Lawyers Demand Stricter Motorcycle Ban Enforcement

The Plateau Lawyer Bar Forum, led by Chairman Ledak D. Dafer and Secretary Dr.

D.N. Dash, is calling for tougher sanctions against commercial motorcycle operators who violate the motorcycle ban in Jos Bukuru Metropolis.

This demand follows a tragic incident on Sunday, where gunmen killed 28 residents in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area. The forum condemned the killings and urged the state government to ensure justice by identifying, arresting, and prosecuting those responsible for the attacks.

They also highlighted the delayed police response and called for the enforcement of the existing motorcycle ban without exceptions. Proposed measures include harsher penalties for offenders, such as the seizure and destruction of motorcycles used in violations, fines, and possible jail terms for repeat offenders.

Additionally, the forum recommended the introduction of a comprehensive identification system for motorcycles and the deployment of solar-powered CCTV cameras to enhance surveillance and community protection.
