Plateau State Reports 5,397 Tuberculosis Cases in 2025

In 2025, Plateau State reported 5,397 tuberculosis cases, as disclosed by Dr. Nichola Baamlong, the Commissioner for Health.

The estimated number of cases was 11,549. This announcement was made during a briefing to commemorate World Tuberculosis Day 2026.

Baamlong expressed concern over the significant gap in diagnosis and treatment, particularly among poor communities with limited access to health facilities. He noted that tuberculosis patients, if untreated, could infect 10 to 15 people annually.

The state offers free diagnosis and treatment at 640 public and private health facilities. Baamlong urged residents to seek medical attention if they experience persistent cough, night sweats, or weight loss.

He acknowledged the commitment of Governor Caleb Mutfwang to prioritize tuberculosis control efforts and thanked various health partners for their contributions towards making Plateau State tuberculosis-free.
