Rivers School Proprietress Arraigned for Student Assault

On June 8, 2026, Orjiugo Udeala, the proprietress of Phronesi Nursery Primary Secondary School located along NTA Road, Rumokwuta, in the Obio Akpor Local Government Area, was arraigned at the magistrate's court in Rumuepirikom, Rivers State. She faces charges of conspiracy and assault against a 16-year-old male student, Gift Nwala Onyech.

The charges allege that Udeala unlawfully assaulted Onyech by flogging him and inflicting a fist blow to his ear, causing harm. The charges are punishable under sections 516 and 355 of the Criminal Code of Rivers State, Nigeria, 1999.

Udeala pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read in court. The presiding magistrate, Charl Wobisik Akpeh, granted her bail in the sum of N100,000, with sureties residing within the court's jurisdiction.

The matter has been adjourned to August 10, 2026, for further hearing.
