Police Arrest 20-Year-Old Arms Supplier in Benue

The Benue State Police Command arrested a 20-year-old suspected arms supplier, Joro Jarkata, in Guma Local Government Area on July 28, 2026. The arrest occurred during a proactive stop-and-search operation conducted by police officers from the Guma Division.

Upon noticing the police, one suspect fled, while Jarkata was apprehended. A search revealed he was in possession of 115 rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition.

Jarkata, a male from Awe Local Government Area in Nasarawa State, is currently in police custody, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Makurdi for further investigation. The police are also pursuing the fleeing accomplice to uncover the source and intended destination of the ammunition.

Commissioner of Police Cletus Nwadiogbu commended the operatives for their vigilance and reiterated the command's commitment to combating illegal firearms and ensuring the security of Benue State.
