15 Killed in Attack on Benue Communities: Eyewitnesses Report

On Tuesday morning, a brutal attack occurred in the Efeyi-Ugboju community of Benue State, resulting in the deaths of 14 individuals, with bodies still being recovered as of 11:30 AM. Earlier, on Monday, one person was killed in the Ipom community of Ugboju.

Local resident accounts describe the situation as "pathetic," noting that the attackers operated for several hours without interruption, starting around 5 AM and continuing until after 9 AM. Maxwell Ogiri, the Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area, confirmed the recovery of 14 bodies and reported numerous injuries among residents, condemning the killings as unprovoked and aimed at innocent lives.

He expressed concern over the persistent attacks despite the presence of security agencies, including the military and police, and called for a more effective enforcement of the Anti-Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law. Police Public Relations Officer DSP Udeme Edet stated she had not yet received detailed information regarding the incident.
