Seven Arrested for Illegal Mining in Niger State

The Niger State Police Command arrested seven suspects aged between 27 and 40 for illegal mining and vandalism at the Gurara Waterfall in the Gurara Local Government Area. The arrests were made during a sting operation conducted by the Gawu Babangida Division on March 22 at 5:00 PM, as part of the command's ongoing efforts to safeguard public property across the state.

Police spokesman Wasiu Abiodun stated that the operation resulted in the recovery of two water pump engines, 14 carpets, six shovels, three diggers, two pipes, and seven head pans. This operation followed a similar raid on March 17, where eight suspects were arrested, and items including 13 shovels and six diggers were recovered.

The command emphasized its commitment to continuing the crackdown on illegal mining and vandalism in the state.
