Olatunji Disu Confirmed as New Inspector General of Police

The Nigeria Police Council has officially confirmed Olatunji Disu as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP). This decision was made during a council meeting held on Monday, where the appointment was unanimously approved.

Disu's confirmation follows the resignation of Kayode Egbetokun. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who appointed Disu as acting IGP on February 24, will conduct the formal swearing-in ceremony on Wednesday during the Federal Executive Council meeting.

The council meeting included notable attendees such as Vice President Kashim Shettima, state governors, and various high-ranking officials. Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu praised Disu for his exemplary service, particularly during his tenure as the commander of the Rapid Response Squad from 2015 to 2021, which earned him recognition for effective crime control.

Disu has a history of service within the Nigeria Police Force, having joined on May 18, 1992, and has held various strategic positions, including Assistant Inspector General in charge of the Special Protection Unit.
