Tree Fall in Awhum, Enugu Claims 11 Lives

On Tuesday, at around 8:45 PM, a large tree fell on two commercial vehicles in Awhum, Udi Local Government Area, Enugu State, leading to the tragic death of 11 individuals. The Enugu State Police Command confirmed the incident in a press statement issued by Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukw.

The tree fell on a Toyota Hiace and a Sienna mini van at the Awhum market square bus stop. Emergency responders, including the 9th Mile Division of the police, quickly assisted community members in rescuing four individuals trapped in the vehicles.

Unfortunately, 11 victims, comprising 10 females and one male, were pronounced dead at the scene. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), represented by Sector Commander Franklin Agbakoba, also confirmed the fatalities, noting that the incident involved a total of 13 individuals, including 11 females and two males.

The accident occurred after heavy rainfall, as passengers were alighting from the vehicles when the tree fell.
