Tree Collapse Kills 11 Passengers in Enugu, Nigeria

On Tuesday evening, a large tree collapsed on two commuter buses in Awhum, Udi Local Government Area, Enugu State, leading to the tragic deaths of 11 passengers. The incident occurred while the vehicles, a Toyota Hiace and a Sienna minivan, were parked at the Awhum village market square during a heavy downpour.

According to the Enugu State Police Command, the vehicles were conveying passengers from various villages within Awhum and Okpatu when the tree, weakened by heavy rainfall and strong winds, fell. Police spokesman Daniel Ndukw stated that upon receiving the report, officers from the 9th Mile Division swiftly responded to assist community members in rescuing four individuals trapped in the vehicles.

Unfortunately, the 11 victims were rushed to the hospital but were later confirmed dead by attending doctors, with their bodies deposited in the mortuary for further procedures.
