Police Inspector Mercy Bassey Killed on Lagos Bridge

Inspector Mercy Bassey, a female police officer attached to the Ikotun Divisional Police Station, was killed on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State at approximately 2:25 PM on Tuesday. She was performing route-lining duties related to a presidential movement when she was struck by a black Highlander SUV at the Adekunle intersection.
Following the incident, the driver did not stop and was pursued by patrol officers. Bassey was taken to the General Hospital in Ebute Metta for medical attention but unfortunately died while awaiting treatment.
Her remains are to be moved to the Infectious Diseases Hospital Mortuary in Yaba for preservation. The Motor Traffic Division has initiated an investigation to identify and apprehend the fleeing driver, and efforts are underway to obtain CCTV footage from Control 5, Adekunle, to assist in this process.
A situation report was filed by the Superintendent of Police in Yaba to the Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, Ikeja.
