Lagos Police Investigate Officers in Assault on Gold Seller

The Lagos State Police Command has initiated an investigation into a viral video depicting an alleged assault on a gold seller by police officers in the Festac area of Lagos. The incident reportedly occurred on Friday and gained attention after the victim shared videos claiming he was assaulted while delivering a gold necklace.

He stated that the officers stopped and searched him, finding no incriminating items but questioning a digital scale he used for weighing gold. The officers accused him of using the scale for cannabis and attempted to force him into their vehicle, which lacked proper registration.

The victim alleged that he was physically assaulted and struck on the head with a gun. The footage shows a confrontation and the victim displaying an injury near his eye.

Following the video's circulation, the Lagos State Police Command confirmed that the officers involved had been identified and summoned for investigation. Commissioner of Police CP Tijani Fatai has directed the Area Commander to produce the officers for further inquiry.
