Police Rescue Woman from Mob Accusation in Rivers State

On June 13, 2023, police from the Azikiwe Division in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, rescued Maria Kobara from a mob that accused her of stealing a 12-year-old girl. The incident took place on Owo Street, Mile 2 Diobu, where Mr.

Nelson Ogiriya witnessed the crowd gathering and intervened. The mob began to physically assault Kobara after she was stopped while taking the girl to church.

Eyewitness accounts revealed that Kobara was attempting to confirm with the girl's mother whether she had sent her daughter to church when the situation escalated. The Rivers State Police Command spokesperson, SP Grace Iring Koko, confirmed the rescue and stated that preliminary investigations indicated that the girl's father raised the alarm, leading to the mob's actions.

Koko urged residents to report suspicious activities to the police rather than resorting to extrajudicial actions, warning against mob justice.
