Sowore Accuses Police of Ignoring N30m Court Order

Omoyele Sowore, a human rights activist, has reported that the Nigeria Police Force, specifically the Lagos State Police Command led by Commissioner Moshood Jimoh, has not complied with a Federal High Court order to pay him N30 million in damages. This order was issued by Judge Musa Kakaki on November 3, 2025, declaring that the police's actions against Sowore were illegal and violated his fundamental human rights.

Sowore's legal troubles stem from allegations that he incited unrest during protests against the demolition of the Oworonshoki community. Despite the court ruling in his favor, the enforcement of the judgment has been complicated by the provisions of the Sheriff and Civil Process Act of 2004, which require the Attorney General of the Federation's approval for payment from the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The Nigerian Senate is currently reviewing amendments to laws that would ease the process for victims of human rights violations to enforce court orders.
