Ekiti Police Officers Face Disciplinary Action for Extortion

Police officers attached to the Ekiti State Command are facing disciplinary proceedings at the Force Headquarters in Abuja after being featured in a viral video during a confrontation with a motorcyclist. The Police Complaint Response Unit announced this update on X, following a directive from Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu.
The incident, which prompted a complaint from the Biker Association of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti on October 6, involved allegations of extortion and intimidation against one of its members. The Ekiti State Police Command stated that the biker was intercepted by a police patrol team while riding from Itapa to Ikole-Ekiti and was improperly demanded to pay money.
The command has identified the officers involved and taken them into custody for questioning. Commissioner of Police, Falade Micheal, has mandated appropriate disciplinary procedures in line with police regulations, condemning all forms of extortion and abuse of authority.
The investigation has been transferred to the State Police Headquarters in Ado-Ekiti for a thorough probe.
