ADC Demands Probe Into Arrest of Members in Rivers State

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has demanded an immediate investigation into the arrest of three of its members—Confidence Amadi, Chikezie Justice, and Isaiah Thomas—during a disrupted political meeting in Isiokpo, Ikwerre Local Government Area, Rivers State. The ADC called for their release unless the Nigeria Police Force can provide credible evidence of an identifiable offense.

The incident occurred during a consultative meeting organized by the party’s House of Assembly candidate for Ikwerre, Jeffrey Wobodo, ahead of his campaign activities. The ADC alleged that personnel from the Nigeria Police Force and members of the local vigilante group, OSPAC, stormed the meeting, intimidating supporters and assaulting participants, resulting in injuries.

The party claimed that mobile phones belonging to members were seized. The three arrested members were accused of cultism, and Wobodo was informed by ACP Felix Ojiaku that the charges were based on an “order from above.” The ADC expressed concern over previous threats against opposition activities in Ikwerre and called for an investigation into potential links to local political interests.
