Abdulsalami Abubakar Exposes Political Duplicity in Nigeria

Former Head of State Abdulsalami Abubakar disclosed in his autobiography that during the June 12, 1993 crisis, politicians from various parties secretly accepted money from both MKO Abiola and his opponent Bashir Tofa. This revelation is found in Chapter 16 of his 264-page autobiography titled "Call to Duty." Abubakar describes the duplicity of Nigerian politicians, who publicly inflame ethnic and religious divisions while privately collaborating and socializing.

He recounts his experiences from the 1980s, illustrating how politicians would gather in private while publicly feigning animosity. Abubakar also reflects on the annulment of the June 12 elections, stating that he was not involved in the transition program that led to the annulment.

He emphasizes that Nigerians are increasingly aware of the manipulative tactics of politicians, who often act as pawns in a larger political game, despite their public disagreements.
