30% of Americans Believe Trump Assassination Attempts Staged

A YouGov poll released on Monday found that 30% of Americans think at least one of three assassination attempts against former President Donald Trump was staged. The survey, conducted between April 28 and May 4, involved 1,000 American respondents and focused on three specific incidents: an alleged attempt at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, an incident in Butler, Pennsylvania, and a plot at Trump's golf club in West Palm Beach.

The poll indicated that approximately 45% of respondents believed the events were real attempts, while 24% thought the Butler incident was staged. The findings also highlighted a generational divide, with 34% of younger Democrats (ages 18-29) believing the events were staged, compared to only 7% of Republicans.

Sofia Rubinson, a senior editor at Newsguard, noted the increasing number of GOP voters who think these events were fabricated, reflecting a growing distrust in official narratives. The poll underscores a significant erosion of trust in institutions and the impact of misinformation.
