Pope Urges Protection in Nigeria Amid Rising Attacks

Pope Leo XIV, born Robert Prevost, mourns the victims of recent violent attacks in Nigeria, calling on authorities to enhance efforts to safeguard citizens. The Pope expressed deep sorrow over the attacks in various communities across Nigeria, particularly in Kwara, Katsina, and Benue states, which resulted in significant loss of life.

The attacks, characterized by terrorism and violence, have raised security concerns, prompting the Pope to offer prayers for the victims and hope for competent authorities to ensure the safety of all citizens. The incidents include deadly assaults in Woro village in Kwara State, where gunmen launched attacks, set shops ablaze, torched residences, and caused panic among residents.

In Katsina State, the Doma community in the Faskari local government area witnessed a brutal attack by suspected bandits, leading to the death of 20 individuals. Additionally, security operations repelled attacks in Anwas village in Benue State, with several homes destroyed by the invaders.

The Nigerian Police and security forces responded promptly to the incidents, with no casualties reported in the defense against the assailants.
