Portugal Introduces New Visa Categories for Foreign Nationals

Portugal has published details regarding four main visa categories available for foreign nationals wishing to enter or reside in the country. These categories include two primary long-stay visa types: temporary stay visas and residency visas.

A temporary stay visa allows holders to remain in Portugal for less than one year and is valid for multiple entries, suitable for study, internships, work assignments, and medical treatment. In contrast, a residency visa permits only two entries and is valid for four months, during which the holder must apply for a residency permit through the Agência para a Integração, Migrações e Asilo (AIMA).

Additionally, Portugal has introduced a Skilled Job Seeker Visa aimed at foreign nationals with specialized technical skills, allowing them to enter and remain in Portugal to seek employment. This visa permits the holder to engage in highly qualified professional activities until the visa expires or a residence permit is granted.
