Portugal Exempts Visa Fees for Five Foreign National Groups

Portugal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that five categories of foreign nationals will be exempt from the standard national visa processing fee of €110. The exempt categories include: 1) Children below the age of six; 2) Descendants of citizens holding a Portuguese residency permit applying under family reunification; 3) Foreign nationals awarded a study scholarship by Portugal; 4) Individuals traveling for highly qualified research activities; and 5) Patients and their accompanying persons traveling under Cooperation Agreements in the Field of Health with Portugal.

These exemptions are intended to facilitate access for vulnerable groups and those contributing to academic or scientific development. Additionally, Portugal offers two broad categories of long-stay visas: temporary stays for less than one year and residency authorization visas for longer periods, covering various purposes such as study, internships, employment, and treatment.

A new visa type has also been introduced for foreign citizens seeking work in Portugal.
