Poverty Reduction: Stakeholders Hold Dialogue Towards Bringing Lasting Solutions

Stakeholders gathered in Abuja to discuss lasting solutions to the multidimensional poverty affecting the majority of Nigerians. With a population of 230 million and a GDP of USD 1.2 trillion, the country faces significant challenges in improving life sustainability.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, 202 million men and women live on less than USD 1.90 a day, making 63% of the population multi-dimensionally poor. The dialogue, part of the Act Naija program, aimed to provide a platform for civil society organizations and stakeholders to contribute to enhancing social protection interventions in Nigeria.

The country's low Human Development Index ranking of 161 out of 193 countries underscores the urgent need for an inclusive social policy to address inequality and poverty. The stakeholders emphasized the importance of a robust and inclusive social protection system to unlock Nigeria's vast economic potential and reduce poverty levels.
