Supreme Court of Nigeria Addresses Land Dispute Jurisdiction and Ownership Issues

The Supreme Court of Nigeria, sitting in Abuja on Friday, June 20, 2025, presided over a case involving a land dispute between the Anaun family of Iluomoba Ekiti, represented by Mr. Ebenez Ogundana, and the Olokoju family, represented by Chief Isaac Olokunlad, Chief Joseph Orimolad, and Festu Aladeloba.

The dispute originated from a claim filed at the High Court Ekiti State seeking a declaration of ownership over a large parcel of land known as Akola Olokoju family land. The Supreme Court addressed the power of the Court of Appeal to assume jurisdiction like a Court of First Instance, examining issues of ownership, evidence, and jurisdiction in the case.
