Tinubu's Office Refutes Atiku's Claims on UNGA Absence

The Presidency has rejected claims made by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and a U.S.-based lobbying firm regarding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's absence from the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York. Presidential Spokesperson Bayo Onanuga stated that President Tinubu extended his working vacation in Europe, which began on August 30, by a few days.

During this vacation, he engaged in official activities, including discussions with French businessman Vincent Bolloré about investments in Nigeria's creative and digital economy and a private dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron. Vice President Shettima arrived in New York on September 21 and is expected to represent Nigeria at the UNGA, focusing on issues such as global financial reform, sustainable development, climate finance, technology access, and African representation in global decision-making.

Nigeria is scheduled to address the Assembly on September 24.
