Tinubu to Review National Policing Bill on September 3

The Presidency announced that President Bola Tinubu will receive the Executive National Policing Bill for review on September 3, 2026, as part of efforts to establish a framework for state policing in Nigeria. This announcement was made by Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to the President and Chairman of the Presidential Working Group on the National Policing Bill, following a committee meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

A public information portal, nationalpolicingbill.com, has been launched to allow Nigerians to submit memoranda and recommendations for the proposed legislation. The consultation process will run from July 27 to September 14, 2026.

After nationwide consultations, the Executive Bill will be revised based on the President’s input before being forwarded to the National Assembly. Gbajabiamila emphasized that the initiative aims to create a professional policing system that enhances security while protecting citizens' rights.

He also noted that the constitutional amendment for state police has been passed but requires further approval from State Houses of Assembly.
