Tinubu to Review National Policing Bill on September 3

President Bola Tinubu is set to review the Executive National Policing Bill on September 3, 2026, as announced by the Presidency. This announcement coincided with the launch of a public information portal, nationalpolicingbill.com, enabling Nigerians to submit memoranda and position papers to influence the legislation.

Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President and Chairman of the Presidential Working Group on the National Policing Bill, provided details during a briefing after a meeting at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja. The work program for the bill spans seven weeks, from July 27 to September 14, 2026.

Gbajabiamila emphasized the importance of creating a lawful and sustainable policing system that enhances local capabilities while maintaining national standards. He clarified that the constitutional amendment for State Police, approved by the Senate on June 24, 2026, and by the House of Representatives on July 23, 2026, is not yet operational until it receives approval from State Houses of Assembly.
