Nigerian Officials Uncover Fraudulent Advisory Council Scheme

Temitop Ajayi, Senior Special Assistant to the President, reported that the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs identified fraudulent activities linked to Matthew Adeniyi, who falsely presented himself as the head of a non-existent Presidential Advisory Council. Ajayi emphasized that the system is functioning as intended and that the detection of these anomalies is a testament to the effectiveness of Nigerian institutions.

He noted that the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Police Force, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) are collaborating to investigate and dismantle the criminal network behind this scheme. Ajayi described Adeniyi as a serial fraudster attempting to divert attention from allegations against him, including claims involving Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to the President.

He clarified that no government agency is investigating any alleged fraud initiated by the NIPC or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
