North West Climate Fund Launched to Tackle Climate Issues

On October 20, the Presidency unveiled the North West Climate Fund, targeting N20 billion over the next four years to address climate challenges such as flooding and drought in the region. Abdullahi Yakasai, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (North-West), announced the fund during the North West Climate Summit at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.
The initiative aims to mobilize grants, impact capital, and carbon finance for climate resilience and women-led green enterprises. The summit, organized with the North West Governors’ Forum and the North West Development Commission, focuses on three pillars: a marketplace for climate programs, a climate academy to train 10,000 youths, and the fund itself.
Dr Mea Boykins, the lead consultant for the North West Climate Academy, stated that the academy would admit its first students within nine months and has partnered with various organizations, including the Georgia House of Representatives and the Lagos Business School.
