President Tinubu Shifts Nigeria to Single Annual Budget Cycle from April 2026

President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria has declared a significant shift to a single annual budget cycle from April 2026, during the presentation of the 2026 appropriation bill to the National Assembly. This move is part of broader fiscal reform efforts to reset the country's budget calendar, improve public financial management, and strengthen discipline in government spending.

The reform seeks to eliminate budget overlaps, delays in project execution, and enhance transparency within ministries, departments, and agencies. Tinubu's administration plans to end the practice of running multiple budgets concurrently, ensuring a cleaner and more efficient budget framework.

The President also seeks to repeal and reenact previous budgets to align with the new fiscal cycle.
