Tinubu Signs NIMC Act 2026 to Strengthen Identity Management

On Friday, President Bola Tinubu assented to the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) Act 2026 at the State House in Abuja. This new law is expected to establish a comprehensive legal framework for the operations of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

The legislation aims to enhance Nigeria's national identity management system, thereby improving the handling of national identification processes. Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Strategic Communications, disclosed this development, indicating that the provisions of the act are anticipated to emerge soon, further detailing its implications for identity management in Nigeria.
