Shettima Lauds Nigeria's Digital Identity Transformation

Vice President Kashim Shettima commended the ongoing transformation of Nigeria’s digital identity ecosystem under President Bola Tinubu, describing it as unrivalled. This transformation is attributed to reforms by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) and the enactment of the NIMC Act 2026.

Shettima made these remarks on Wednesday at the State House in Abuja while meeting with a delegation from NIMC led by Director General Abisoye Odusote. He emphasized the establishment of a sovereign Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) and the transition from paper-based administration to secure digital governance.

Shettima praised Odusote’s leadership in transforming NIMC into Nigeria’s foundational digital authority. He urged the management to support the Director General's transformative efforts and adopt technology-driven models to advance the administration's Renewed Hope Agenda.

Odusote highlighted the significance of the NIMC Bill, which facilitates communication between government databases and enhances citizen interaction with the government. The NIN is now the primary source of truth for Nigerian identity, integrated into various sectors.
