Pressure on Tinubu to Sack Matawalle After Defence Minister's Resignation

Pressure is increasing on Nigerian politician Bola Tinubu to dismiss Bello Matawalle as Minister of State for Defence after the resignation of Moham Badaru Abubakar as Defence Minister. The United States reportedly requested Badaru's removal due to health grounds, leading to expectations of Matawalle's replacement.

Badaru, who served as Governor of Jigawa State from 2015 to 2023, resigned on Monday. Christoph Musa, a former Chief of Defence Staff, recently met with Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Tinubu is expected to notify the Senate of Badaru's replacement soon.
