Morocco and Algeria Clash for WAFCON Third Place

Morocco and Algeria will face each other for the second time at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in a third-place play-off at the Rabat Olympic Stadium on Saturday at 6pm. This match is significant as it will be the first meeting between two North African teams in a WAFCON medal match and the first time two teams from the same region contest the third-place play-off.

Morocco aims for a third top-three finish after being runners-up in 2022 and 2024, while Algeria is guaranteed its best-ever finish regardless of the outcome. The teams previously met in the group stage, where Morocco won 1-0 thanks to Sanaa Mssoudy’s late goal.

Morocco was eliminated from the final after a penalty shoot-out loss to Cameroon, marking the first time they failed to reach the final as hosts. A victory would secure Morocco's third top-three finish, while a loss would mean finishing outside the top three for the first time as hosts.

Algeria's semi-final defeat to Malawi also ended their final hopes but offers a chance for historic achievement.
