OAU Sends Students Home Amid Protests Over Conditions

Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) has directed students to proceed on a three-week mid-semester break effective immediately due to ongoing protests related to the proposed eviction of residents from Awo Hall. The protests have caused significant disruptions, including challenges to the transport system, leading to hardship for students.

Despite efforts to engage and appeal for calm, the situation has raised concerns regarding the safety of students on campus. The university's Senate approved the break to restore order and create an environment conducive to dialogue.

Parents and guardians have been advised to make necessary arrangements for their children during this period. The management has also issued a notice regarding repairs in Awo Hall, while students have expressed concerns about missing lectures and long queues for transportation.

Student leader David Adelani is leading efforts to sensitize students and align them ahead of planned demonstrations, which included barricading campus gates.
