OAU Students to Boycott Lectures Over Transport Issues

Students at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) have announced a 72-hour lecture boycott from April 14 to April 16, 2026, due to dissatisfaction with the university's transport system. The decision, made during a Student Union Government congress on April 9, was prompted by inadequate transport arrangements that have worsened commuting conditions.

Students reported insufficient vehicles, overcrowding, long wait times, and poor route coverage, particularly affecting those living off-campus. The transport fare has increased from N100 to N150, adding to the financial burden on students.

The union, led by President Adelani David and Secretary General Habeeb Ok, demands the reinstatement of previous transport arrangements and the introduction of a hybrid transport model. They warn that failure to address these issues within the 72-hour window could lead to escalated protests.

The university management has yet to respond to these concerns, despite previous assurances of improvements.
